What, exactly, is a chakra? The literal meaning of the Sanskrit word is “wheel” or “disc.” The body has seven primary chakras—from the base of the spine to the crown of the head—that are associated with specific organs. There are different ways of defining the chakras, but my favorite description comes from author Anodea Judith in her book Eastern Body Western Mind: “A chakra is a center of organization that receives, assimilates, and expresses life-force energy. Chakras are not physical entities in and of themselves. Like feelings or ideas, they cannot be held like a physical object, yet they have a strong effect upon the body as they express the embodiment of spiritual energy on the physical plane.” I’ve been curious what the Akashic Records might have to say about the chakras. To help satisfy my curiosity, I invited Maari Falsetto, founder of Inner Alchemy Treasures and Transformations, to pose questions about the human chakra system. This high-level look at the human chakra system from the Akashic Records is the first of a two-part series.
From the Akashic Records
The first (root) chakra is in the base of the spine
What is most important to know about the root chakra?
The Akashic Records describe the root chakra as the basis of life. A person can’t live if their root chakra doesn’t function. Part of the overall agreement humans have with the earth is that earth energy supports our life-force energy. One of the things our root chakra does is translate earth energy into energy that supports our body. Energetically, the root chakra is our root of physicality on earth. Each of our chakras can be at a different level of functioning, and any chakra can be open, closed, or damaged. The chakras do energetically respond when you work with them. However, if you didn’t have any function at all in the root charka, you wouldn’t be able to live.
What do the Akashic Records say is the best way to support one’s root chakra?
The Akashic Records are saying to sleep. There’s not enough sleep right now. Part of it is our current social structure, part of it is individual choice. Sleep is a simple thing but it’s important. Sleep acts as a restorative. The root chakra has a way of knitting itself back together when we sleep. If you feel a need to take a nap during the day, then follow your body’s cue. The need for a nap can be your body or your energy system telling you, “I’m overwhelmed right now.” The gentleness of sleep is very healing to the root chakra, just as it is to the body.
How does sound, like sound bowls and sound healing, affect the root chakra?
Sound very much affects the root chakra. Sound healing is like a bass note that your root chakra responds to. Think about when you’re listening to music at a concert. How would that music sound without those deep, low notes? If those notes are missing, you can sense something is off. This is similar to sound healing and the root chakra. The deep thrumming of the sound bowls feed the root chakra. And, what your root chakra does on a much wider level is pick up on those deep vibrations of life that are always around you.
The second (sacral) chakra is in the pelvic area
For this day, for this time, what is most important to know about the sacral chakra from the Akashic Records?
There’s a lot of stuff zinging around right now. All of us went through huge changes in 2020. Individually and collectively, we’re still figuring out these changes. As your mind and body are processing all of this, so is your second chakra. You can bring tenderness to your second chakra by reminding it that its job is to tend to you and your feelings. You can remind it that it doesn’t have to be wide open to try to figure out everything for everybody. The simple act of reminding your second chakra that its only job is to tend to you will reduce a lot of strain.
There’s an energetic skill we can learn to close the sacral chakra so that it’s not wide open and picking up stuff that’s from others. I’m curious what the Akashic Records have to say about when your second chakra is wide open and being able to close it.
The image from the Akashic Records is not so much a complete closing as it is a narrowing of an aperture—like the diameter of a camera lens that can be widened or narrowed. The wider the opening, the more that comes in. The other image from the Records is of a filter placed over the second chakra. The metaphor is of a filter in a fish tank. A filter keeps the environment clean by filtering out all the gunk. In terms of your second chakra, keeping out the stuff other people are feeling or releasing is important, especially right now. Taking on what doesn’t belong to you will gunk up your own motor, so to speak.
What are some of the traits or qualities of a healthy, well-functioning sacral chakra?
The ability to say no without guilt. Being able to love without strings and without expectation. Being able to feel your feelings without expectation that others will feel that same thing. Knowing that others have their own feelings and that you don’t have to feel those feelings or otherwise take them on.
The third (solar plexus) chakra is in the solar plexus
What would the Akashic Records like us to know at this time about the solar plexus chakra?
Before 2020, the overarching collective energy was of forcing the will outward. In 2020, much of that changed. Instead of using the will—the ability to take action—for achievement and external recognition, the attention shifted to taking action to support the self in new ways. The questions went from “What do I do to get that promotion?” to “How do I figure out my life now without a job? What does it mean that I have to close my business? How do I help other family members get through a financial crisis? How do I cope as I grieve the loss of a loved one?”
From the viewpoint of the Akashic Records, 2020 brought a contraction to much of the external pushing. Ultimately, that contraction led us into more of an internal focus. We’re redefining what’s important. As we reorder and rebuild our lives, using our ability to take action now has a more personal and supportive focus.
The fourth (heart) chakra is in the heart area
Moving to the heart chakra, what would the Akashic Records like to share that is most important and relevant to know about the heart chakra today?
Together, we’ve opened our heart to others. By going inward—re-collecting and renewing what’s important to us—we’ve started to see ourselves more clearly. When we can see ourselves with more clarity, we have more capacity to see and have compassion for others. Despite all the awful and scary things that happened in the last year and a half, collectively there’s been a heart opening that allows us to better see others.
What do the Akashic Records say about forgiveness and the heart chakra?
Forgiveness is a balm to the heart chakra. Forgiveness makes the heart chakra open even wider in a healthy way. Forgiveness is based on compassion for self and other. When you forgive, you allow yourself to be more whole. This greater wholeness creates room for growth and new strength.
What is damaging to the heart chakra?
Contraction damages the heart chakra. The most damaging thing to the heart chakra is contracting who you are. Your light, your heart is meant to shine out to show who you are.
Next month, we’ll continue our conversation with the Akashic Records as Shamanic Reiki practitioner Maari Falsetto asks about the fifth (throat), sixth (third eye), and seventh (crown) chakras.
